About us
The Wildlife Habitat Trust (WHT)
The Wildlife Habitat Trust (WHT) was set up in 1986 by members of the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC). It is dedicated to raising and distributing funds to help with the acquisition of land for shooting and conservation. The WHT provides grants to help manage sites for wildlife and is now turning its attention to providing some support for local and national Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs). Most recently, grants have been given to help with the conservation of grey partridge, water voles and dormice. These grants support the conservation objectives of the RSPB, the Environment Agency and Natural England.
To date, the WHT has provided assistance to conservation projects where the total land acquisitions have exceeded £1 million.
The Wildlife Habitat Charitable Trust (WHCT)
The Wildlife Habitat Charitable Trust (WHCT) provides habitat conservation grant support to national and international projects. It is keen to assist projects which target the conservation of known breeding habitats of the UK’s migratory species including:
- Mallard
- European wigeon
- European green-winged teal
- Pintail
- Tufted duck
- Pochard
- Greylag goose
- Pink-footed goose
The WHCT is willing to consider projects which fall within the following general categories;
- Habitat protection measures
- Habitat restoration and improvement
- Preparation of management plans identifying conservation needs and establishing necessary management policy
- Measures to involve local inhabitants/user groups in the sympathetic management of important sites/habitats
- Projects which can demonstrate a positive contribution to the UK Biodiversity Action Plan
The Wildlife Habitat (Conservation Stamp) Trust (WH(CS)T)
The WH(CS)T manages the UK Habitat Conservation Stamp programme. Each year the WHT commissions a famous wildlife artist to produce a piece of wildlife art. From this, a Habitat Stamp is produced and this is available for sale to the public at £5.
The majority of Habitat Stamp income is used to assist habitat conservation in the UK. A number of significant acquisition and management projects have been supported, some in partnership with government conservation agencies, on a number of important wetlands, (including Ramsar sites), in the United Kingdom.
By purchasing a stamp or any of the items listed within, you will be contributing directly to wildlife conservation.
